However, with ‘Born To Perish’ there isn’t anything here that Destruction have never done before, but that is part of the magic of this album, the band have delivered an album which shows the band sticking to its guns and bearing down full throttle. Yet, it is the thrashing anthem ‘Butchered For Life’ alongside ‘Fatal Flight 17’ where Schmier and company show that they are more than capable of still honouring their fans with the former and write contemporary thrash songs about saddening current affairs, giving it the dignity and respect it deserves with the latter. ‘Ratcatcher’ and the title track have everything that any fan of Destruction could ever want, terrorising thrashing riffs and driving drumbeats which almost manage to form pits of their own accord. The sound that Destruction have captured with this release demonstrates that even 35 years on, the band are not only riding with a full tank but are also relevant and to the point in fact, Schmier hasn’t sounded this good in years. It will keep their fanbase happy and assure them that Destruction is a force to be reckoned with for years to come.As expected, ‘Born To Perish’ follows in exactly the same format as their previous album, it is a hard hitting album of pounding Teutonic thrash metal. Nothing I think on this record will gain a lot of new fans if the band don´t get the chance to tour the world with bigger bands. “Ratcatcher” shows that they can do fast songs that got catchy lyrics without getting too cheesy. A thrash metal version of the Gary Moore classic in new clothes and words. And yes! Of course it´s about that fatal plane crash from 2014. It throws me back to Gary Moore and his “Murder In The Skies”. Still with great groove and those furious guitars.Ī mind like mine who almost evolves around music and metal every woken hour I react instantly when seeing a song called “Fatal Flight 17”. “We Breed Evil” is the albums “nothing to see here-move on” song. I wouldn´t want to be in Randy Blacks clothes after this one. This song must have been the newcomers audition song. “Tyrants of the Netherworld” is a furious and brutal assault on our ears that shows off the bands best hooks and riffs on the album. It´s a close call on the album for me on the subject of favorite tracks. Starts out slowly but in the end it still gets to charged up to be a song you cannot miss out on who´s playing. “Butchered for life” now I haven´t found it out but not unlikely a song to celebrate the history of the band and it´s fans. “Filthy Wealth” is so melody wise it could have fitted any Motörhead song. “Betrayal” follows the same pattern as “Rotten” lyrically: Greed and Inhuman behaviors. Next up is one of my favorite tracks “Rotten” which is a bit slowed down and the first taste of what the lyrics are about: State of the world. During the chorus Schmier can be heard once again challenging his vocal chords. New guitar player Damir Eskic will later on show his skills and the reason he is in Destruction. A thing that captures my ears is the ferocious drumming of ex Primal Fear and Annihilator skinsman Randy Black. “Betrayal” got a chorus that´ll get stuck in your head after you finished listening to the album. In “Inspired By Death” Schmier challenges himself with a different approach than on the rest of the record. Kicking off with the title track “Born to Perish” it shows a band not ready to slow down, angry as ever just full on thrash.

Fasten your seatbelts and lets join their manic thrashparty. 37 years into their career they are still as angry as ever. Never really gained a successful era, more cult status /following. They´ve been around since early 80´s in different shapes and forms.

German Thrash legends Destruction is a band that has always been there in the metal world.
